Favorite Movies of the Decade

I love movies, and had to cut a lot of good ones out of this list.  Here are 33 of my favorites.

1. Juno (2007) Jason Reitman

Ellen Page plays the title character.  Diablo Cody writes the words.  Michael Cera adds to a great cast.

2. Little Miss Sunshine (2006) Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris

An all star cast lead this ensemble film.  It is such a wonderful delight of a film.  I could watch this anytime.

3. Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle (2004) Danny Leiner

Buddy movie that is funny as can be.  Doogie Howser, fuck yeah.

Favorite TV Shows of the Decade

I’ve watched a lot of TV over the last decade, and I’ve been a loyal viewer of many shows. In putting this list together it has been difficult to get the number of shows down to a reasonable number. At first I was going to break it up into different categories, but some were stronger than others. In the end I have put together a list of thirty three of my favorite shows of the decade no matter the category. The criteria was only that they were shows that I loved watching. I had to leave a lot of great shows off the list. Some that I left off are truly great shows, with wonderful writing, great acting and beautiful production value, but for whatever reason, they just don’t grip me like these.

33. This American Life: (2007-08) Showtime

My favorite show on public radio came to TV this decade. I didn’t know how it would be possible to turn a radio program into an interesting and engaging TV show, but Ira and the group did it. It shows up quirky, funny, poignant stories from real people. They carefully put together a show where we don’t condescend, we actually care about these odd people.

Favorite Music Videos of the Decade

The following are 33 of my favorite music videos of the last ten years, listed in no particular order.  Some are great songs, some are fun, some are great visuals, some are sentimental, and some are all of the above.  I’m sure I missed some (a lot) of great ones.  Let me know in the comments what your list would be.

Michael Andrews/Gary Jules – Mad World

This cover of the Tears for Fears song was featured in the 2001 film Donnie Darko.  The video was directed by Michel Gondry was shot in one continuous take and features school children creating shapes using complex choreography to tell the story of the song.
